
It was the way of the sages to interpret verses and from them learn things which can not be concluded from the plain meaning of the words. Thus, for example, they interpreted the blessing given to Samson the mighty: “So the woman bore a son and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him” (Judges 13:24). The sages asked: With what was he blessed? We do not find in the Scriptures that Samson was blessed with wealth. Answer: He was blessed with his sexual organ. Even when he was a boy his sexual organ was like that of a grown man, and the quantity of his semen was as a flowing river.
